? Chairman's Welcome

Verwood University of the Third Age

Chairman’s Welcome 2017 – 2018

Welcome to Verwood U3A. If you’re looking for an active retirement you’ve come to the right place. All the research into our health and well-being stresses how important it is to remain active, mentally, physically and socially. U3A offers all three! Our name says we’re a “university”, but we’re one with a difference - no exams, no tests, no qualifications, and everyone welcome to join regardless of background, experience or education. “Third Age” means everybody no longer of working age. We love to learn but the way we do it ensures we have fun at the same time. We value the social and the learning benefits equally.

Please explore this website where you will find details of what we offer. At its heart are the 28 or so Group Activities held in various local venues, weekly, fortnightly or monthly. In addition we hold monthly social meetings in the United Reform Church with guest speakers, quizzes and refreshments, and also a monthly pub lunch. A most welcome new venture over the previous year has been the tremendous success of our Travel Group who have organized a whole series of excellent coach trips. Look at the Travel section to see reviews and photos and details of what’s coming up. All the latest news is posted on the Home Page and there is a full Calendar of forthcoming events.

Our year runs from September to June, but you can join at any time. Take a look at the “Activities” page and see if there is anything there that interests you, then go to “Application” and print the application form (alternatively you can call in to the Verwood Library and pick up a form). Then having completed the form go through the check list under How to Join and send your form to our Membership Secretary. Don’t forget to check availability with the activity group leader, and remember to enclose a stamped addressed envelope with your form and Membership Fee. That’s all there is to it before enjoying your chosen activity. We always like to hear from you regarding your U3A experience so if you have any concerns or suggestions etc. just email me using the link below.
I Joined the Verwood U3A when I moved to Verwood in 2012, and feel that it is one of the best things my Wife and I did. We were made very welcome, meeting a lot of very nice people and striking up several good friendships, and I am sure you will have the same experience. We are all volunteers and we rely on members volunteering their help. If you have a skill, interest or enthusiasm you think you might possibly be able to share we’d love to hear from you. If you’d like to help us on the committee side we’d also welcome your contribution.
Verwood is a vibrant and incredibly friendly U3A. I am confident that 2017 - 18 will be our biggest and best year yet. I really hope that you will join us and become part of it.

David Allen
